New 3.6kV Reverse Blocking GTO Thyristor
Westcode Semiconductors Limited introduced a new addition to its range of GTO (gate turn-off) thyristors. The new 3.6V blocking device is symmetrical and has a nominal current rating of 1000A. Westcode used its unique cathode chip design to develop these products. The devices offer robust switching performance for megawatt controlled power systems and have got the improved breadth of bipolar power.
GTO thyristors have controllable turn-off current of 1000A when used with a snubber capacitor. With a 3.6kV rating, these new devices are also suitable for a 1.5kV DC link voltage and offer a maximum reverse blocking voltage capability.
Four blocking voltage ratings are available: S1000NC300, S1000NC30Y, S1000NC36D and S1000NC36Y.
The device is available for mass transit, electrical power generation and distribution but also other applications in traction systems such as auxiliary power supplies or braking choppers.
